His brother and the others got busy eating their launch and Amir was playing with a bunch of other kids around the mill, when his jacket got caught in the machine and before he could even understand, the machine sucked him in. One after the other arms got cut off.
There was no way to get him to hospital because there weren’t many car’s in their village. Finally, one his neighbours, a young girl, gathered enough courage went to the army camp in their village, where they gave him first aid and bound wounds as best as possible.
This was at that time when the situation in Kashmir was not very good, but even then those army guys took him to the hospital in Srinagar. There they flagged down a civilian car and asked him to drop him in the hospital. Some of his aunts were accompanying him.
The driver in that car took them some way along but then he stopped and asked them to get out. They were in the middle of the nowhere. His aunt begged him,but he kept saying that he was busy.During that time Amir was as good as dead anyway, so it was point less making trip to the hospital.
Luckily, the army car had been following them the whole time. When they saw what the driver did, they got angry on him and then took Amir to the Bone and Joint hospital in Srinagar.
Amir spent three years in hospital. At first, when people visited him,he couldn’t recognise any one of them.People started to say to his parents that it was good as a dead and they should poison him.But his grandmother,Fazee, said as long she was alive she would take care of him. Amir was very lucky to have her.
Amir’s father had sold some of their land and sawmill for his treatment.
After his treatment, Amir’s mother didn’t asked him to go to school because she knew how hard it would be for him, but his grandmother insisted that Amir should go.At that school Amir was only boy with a disability. So, he had to complete with able bodied children for everything. A lot of people started saying Amir had no reason to be at school, that education was not meant for him, that Amir should just stay at home. When he told his grandmother this, she said, you don’t like have to do anything, just go to school and sit in class, that’s all.
Amir said, the first thing he learned was to eat with his feet. His parents were always out working. It was his grandmother who supported and reassured him.

Later, when he was studying in college, the para cricket players came and asked him to If he played cricket and he said yes. He had played before. So the captain asked me if he wanted to bowl. Someone else said, “Oh but how will this poor man bowl, he has no arms?
He grabbed the ball with his feet. He swing and throw it keeping the line and length in mind just like any abled bowler would.
